Pet Peeves

Posted in Life with tags , , on February 28, 2010 by kumoriha

I’m feeling kind of annoyed right now, so I’ll give a list of ten pet peeves in no particular order.

1. Stupid people. No explanation needed.
2. Loud things/people. No explanation needed.
3. Unflushed toilets. Hate hate hate when people do this. My parents apparently don’t know how to hold down the flushing thing to flush it either.
4. People who try to act “cool” or “gangster.” They just fail at it. Sometimes it’s funny, but most of the time it’s just annoying.
5. Wasting time. I have too many things I want to do.
6. Disruptive people/things. Wasting my time.
7. Little kids. 子供が嫌いです。
8. Homophobes. Although this is just personal dislike for people who hate on awesomeness. Personally, I think gay people have really fun personalities.
9. People who don’t do their work. They copy other people and crap. They’re screwing themselves in the end. And they usually have really annoying personalities.
10. People who annoy other people. I don’t see the point of their actions. Do they want people to be pissed off at them or something? I guess this would fall under “stupid people” as well…

I feel slightly better now.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
ドン引き(donbiki) – creep out, turn-off. When Choucho was asked about Pokota after his “sexual harassment,” she replied, “Donbiki desu.”

Weekly Vocaloid Ranking #125

Posted in Nico Nico Douga with tags , , , , , on February 26, 2010 by kumoriha

Forgot to this this Monday, and didn’t feel like posting it up until today. But it was a very interesting list. Nicovideo.
And Youtube:

A Whole New World. Pretty good, actually.

Anyway, after I listened to Sekihan’s performance of IMITATION BLACK, I got the song stuck in my head. I love the way he pronounces it. And he changed the “Please teach me the answer” in the song to a more normal “Oh, tell me the answer” which gets an auto high five. Now if only he would fix up his Engrish in magnet.

Sekihan x Pico x Ouzoku Band

Love the little manzai-like dialogue thing.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
漫才(manzai) – a two man comedy with a straight man and a funny man. Usually Osakan.

More Nico Nico Tour

Pokota sings Dancing Samurai by Gakupoid. I have to say, Pokota looks a lot like Gackt…It’s the sunglasses.
Anyway, I love this performance. Pokota is such a great entertainer.

Really really wish I was there…

Also, a little song to help you remember the numbers in pi:

Still need to watch Bakemonogatari episode 14.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
セクハラ(sekuhara) – sexual harassment. This is the Japanese tendency to take the first two syllables of two words and combine them (sekushuaru harasumento). Great word to know.

The Astonishment of Suzumiya Haruhi

Posted in Anime with tags , , on February 24, 2010 by kumoriha

Well, looks like Tanigawa Nagaru’s finally getting started. Hopefully. A part of the new (finally) Suzumiya Haruhi novel will be released later this year. Rejoice.
It seems like Love Plus has been officially considered “fine art” by the Japanese government. I guess I’ll have to agree, albeit in a strange way…
Bakemonogatari episode 14 is finally out too. Will watch now.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
変人(henjin) – Strange person. 変(hen) means weird or strange, and 人(hito, but in this case jin) means person. So “strange person.”

Orchestra concert tonight went okay. At least I didn’t mess up like in rehearsal. Can’t say the same about Jenny though…
However. There was one important thing I noticed at the concert besides Joseph’s repeated channeling of Yo-Yo Ma. Zettai Ryouiki. I will now forever remember that girl who was playing piano as “Zettai Ryouiki Girl” for her knee socks (or thigh socks?).

I feel like listening to some abstract music now for some reason. Meh. Must practice Smiling.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
絶対領域(zettai ryouiki) – “Absolute Territory.” Came from Evangelion apparently, but its current meaning refers to the space between the hem of a skirt to the top of the sock. Basically, the thigh skin showing. Supposedly, “perfect” zettai ryouiki is a few inches or so. I blame the internet for my knowing this.

Suuuuupaaaa cell.

supercell’s Sayonara Memories has hit 7th on Oricon charts! Yay and celebration.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 2010 has come out on DS and I’ve been playing that the whole weekend…no homework done at all.
Decided to watch Hanamaru Kindergarten too over the weekend. It’s actually pretty good. I didn’t expect to like the cutesy style of the kids, but I guess it grows on you. Better than all of the ero-moe titles out there…
Anyway, back to Yu-Gi-Oh.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
ツンデレ(tsundere) – comes from tsuntsun, meaning kind of aloof, and deredere, meaning kind of lovestruck. So a tsundere is a person (usually a girl “tsunderekko”) who is normally cold but then embarrassingly warm on the inside. Ex: Hiiragi Kagami, Aisaka Taiga, Misaka Mikoto

New Stuff

K-On!! anime to broadcast in April. Apparently the second season gets a name change — an extra “!”
Max Factory is coming out with an H-game. Here’s the thing — it’s free. Yep. Free.
It’ll be downloadable off of the website when it’s released at the end of March. Apparently there’s a version of it you can order for money that comes with a figure. The game is called se・きらら(se・kirara).

It looks very pretty. Although the characters don’t seem too interesting. But anyway, why do eroge always get good OPs? Will probably download to try it out when it comes out.

…Seems like I can only find these kind of games to learn Japanese…
Waiting on Black Rock Shooter as well. Whee.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
赤裸々(sekirara) – frankness or nakedness. Go figure.

That’s what your mother’s face said!

Posted in Life with tags , , on February 18, 2010 by kumoriha

It seems that every day, little by little, the English language is dwindling, falling into the dark pits of metaphorical defication. Maybe not just little by little. Human creativity has been dulled by the advent of this decade, where coined phrases are put into use everyday in every situation.

A: Hey, got a dollar?
B: That’s what she said!
A: ???

This situation has become so common, so prevalent, that one would expect to get used to it.
I haven’t.
It feels like everywhere I go, there’s some douche that pulls a bad line from some sort of crap media out of his ass, polishes it with a dirty rag, and then tosses it into your face without warning. And what can you do? Reciprocation? Unfortunately, that happens all too often as well.

A: You’re freaking retarded.
B: Your mother’s retarded.
A: Your face’s retarded.
B: That’s what she said.

Now, I could spend the time to analyze each of these lines which I’m sure have come up at least 100 times in my vicinity exactly as is, but I don’t think that would be productive. In any case, it can all be summed up in two letters: B.S.
In other words, Brain Shortcircuit.
B.S. is a condition that occurs when one spends too much time absorbing feces from contemporary media, causing certain nerve centrals in the body to completely shut down. In programming language, it’d be something like while anything, respond with xxx with no end in sight. I believe B.S. is a serious epidemic in America today, something more potentially harmful, prevalent, and contagious that AIDS or TB. Fortunately, B.S. can be easily cured by any of the following remedies: 1. Imprisonment, 2. Removal of eyes and ears, or 3. Death.
Or, you know, one can just…decide not to do it?

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
どうしてこうなった(doushite kou natta) – “Why did it become like this?!”; “How did it come to this?!” Usable in pretty much all applicable situations. I think it came from 2ch.

Guargh. Renai Circulation has taken over Nico Nico Douga. As has Uraomote Lovers. This is getting ridiculous.
Creepy “Solid Snake” version:

Creepy. But I can’t stop listening for some reason…
There’s a pretty nice Kyon version out there too somewhere.

Lately, there haven’t been many good Vocaloid songs out. It’d be nice if supercell released another song sometime soon…

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
うんこ(unko) – poo. Not much else to say.

>So I started and finished reading Genshiken the other day. For people who don’t know what that it, it’s a series about a college club of sorts, in which a bunch of otaku gather together and do otaku things. Somehow they manage to snag bishounen and bishojo. This does not tend to happen in real life.

I was pretty surprised by the lack of “hardcore”-ness of it. I was expecting it to be a lot more extreme, I guess. There was quite a focus on porn and eroge. Completely different from Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, but I guess the reasons are pretty obvious.

It seems that most otaku we see (on TV or whatever) all look like crap. Messy hair, bad posture, skinny, and bad teeth. Propaganda, most likely. Well, I guess most otaku are like that…Imagine the chaos it’d be if every otaku were like Danny Choo:

I feel like eating cake. Parents threw out the cake. Am slightly annoyed.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
迷子(maigo) – a lost child. In context, it could mean a lost anything, really, though.
