The Time of Eve

Posted in Anime with tags , , , on March 3, 2010 by kumoriha

Yesterday I wasted my time watching all six episodes of The Time of Eve (Ivu no Jikan). I have to say, I liked it.
The story takes place in the not so distant future where androids have invaded daily lives. That is, they do your chores for you. And such. And have a Sims-like ring over their head. Anyway.
There’s this cafe called The Time of Eve where robots and humans come together, and there are no distinctions. The anime talks about the adventures and realizations of the main character as he and his friend meet androids and humans.
The thing that stands out about this anime is the use of 3d backgrounds with 2d characters, which worked out very nicely in my opinion. Too bad the series was so short though, since it could have used more development. 6 episodes, all of which only about 15 minutes each except the last. Was very good though.

Also, the Taliban are apparently using Playstation controllers to detonate bombs:

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
wwwww – Okay, so it’s not a word. It’s the Japanese equivalent of “lol,” and I have no idea how to pronounce it. It comes from 笑う(warau) “to laugh” and was shortened to wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. The number of w’s is up to you. Not really applicable in real life unless you want to sound like an idiot.

The Astonishment of Suzumiya Haruhi

Posted in Anime with tags , , on February 24, 2010 by kumoriha

Well, looks like Tanigawa Nagaru’s finally getting started. Hopefully. A part of the new (finally) Suzumiya Haruhi novel will be released later this year. Rejoice.
It seems like Love Plus has been officially considered “fine art” by the Japanese government. I guess I’ll have to agree, albeit in a strange way…
Bakemonogatari episode 14 is finally out too. Will watch now.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
変人(henjin) – Strange person. 変(hen) means weird or strange, and 人(hito, but in this case jin) means person. So “strange person.”

The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi

涼宮ハルヒの消失(Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoutshitsu) the movie was released! Well, I guess it came out yesterday in Japan, but here it’s February 6 today! Looking forward for the illegal internet upload soon. Also, Yugioh 2010 movie sounds hilariously interesting.

Is it just me, or are all the good Japanese movies anime movies?

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
びりびり(biri biri) – the onomatopoeia for something shocking or stinging. Also nickname-turned-official-name of Misaka Mikoto from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun.

Oh Dear.

It happened. China has finally stolen Lucky Star.

Oh dear indeed.

In other news, Seikon no Qwaser is seriously the weirdest anime I’ve ever seen. Actually, I couldn’t even get through all of the first episode. Come now, super powers by sucking breast milk? Obvious fanservice is obvious. Even more than that is Omamori Himari, in which Himari is the culmination of “moe” traits. Cat ears, tail, huge breasts, shimapan, etc. Ridiculous. Couldn’t get past the first episode of that either. Bleh.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
萌え(moe) – a sort of “turn-on” trait. Konata explains it in Lucky Star. Encompasses everything from clumsiness to tsundere and such.

Pikachuuu!

Oh dear. New Guinness record for Pokemon fan. This is pretty ridiculous, in a good and bad way.

Started watching Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu too. It’s pretty good, and the concept is pretty interesting (battle with summons with strength based on test scores–oh noes!), but the main character is too stupid to be likeable. Also do not like Himeji, although that’s because I tend not to like the big breasted, soft spoken girls. It just doesn’t fit, and the voice is kind of annoying.

That is all.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
化物(bakemono) – monster, creature, strange creepy tentacly raping thing, yeah.

Durarara!!

Last night, well, this morning I guess, since it was midnight, I watched Durarara!! I have to say, it’s good. The animation and art is very nice and crisp, with a nice balance of colors and details. And it’s A LOT like Baccano! which may or may not be a good thing. But hey, there’s a headless biker with a nekomimi helmet, so it’s all good.

In other news, another annual Cirno Dance-off in Hokkaido. The song is “Cirno’s Perfect Math Class.”
Nicovideo. 300 people dancing in the snow, and apparently some guy in from Australia went too. Fun fun fun.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
猫耳(nekomimi) – Eh, why not. Nekomimi are cat ears. Great for cosplay or other random things.

K-On!

New(?) OVA episode 14 of K-On! anime. Also, Mio Figma coming out soon. Looking very very nice.

And for no reason at all, halyosy’s [Smiling]:

Pretty old, but still a really large collaboration. Sekihan’s part is funny. Lots of Engrish too.

Random Japanese Word of the Day:
コンビに(konbini) – convenience store. Has many yummy and otherwise awesome stuff inside.
